A member asked:

What is the cause of a sudden hot flash?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not fully known: The symptoms are characteristic of a heat-dissipation response and consist of sweating on the face, neck, and chest, as well as blood vessel dilation. The actual cause is unknown, but is related to menopause and loss of the ability to regulate body temparature. Estrogen is related but not the sole cause since the estrogen levels may be the same women without hot flashes
