See below: Each person is individual, but usually manic symptoms are managed by mood stabilizers and depressive symptoms are managed by antidepressants. Overall feelings are managed by psychotherapy. The goal of the treatment to have your mood more or less even-keeled.

Mood stabilizers: Mood stabilizers are used to treat bipolar disorder. Lithium and depakote would be two examples of mood stabilizers but there are others, depending on symptoms, and depending on what works for the patient.
