All the time!: Women need surgery for many reasons during pregnancy, such as appendicitis. Your anesthesiologist will choose the safest medications for each patient, taking into account the type of surgery and how far along the pregnancy is. If necessary, the mother and fetus will be monitored after surgery to watch for any signs of early labor. Safe delivery of a healthy baby is the norm.
