What generally happens before the esophageal manometry test?

Tube placed: A manometry tube is placed in the nose and passed into the stomach. Occasionally, it can go through the mouth. Many times, numbing meds can be used to make the passage of the tube easier. It is also well lubricated. Once the tube is in place, you will be asked to swallow several times to calibrate the machine and then the test will begin.
