CAT SCAN: A ct of the abdomen will find all but the mildest cases of diverticulitis. Other diseases may look like diverticulitis on ct scan. Accordingly, we will often perform a follow-up colonoscopy a few months later just to be certain.

Others: 4 the sake of completeness, u can often c diverticulitis on abdominal MRI (if proper sequence is performed), on tagged WBC scans, gallium scans, & even bone scans on occasion. The best scan depends on clinical circumstances (& if there r other possibilities). The best _test_ is an exam w a surgeon or GI w/ experience diagnosing even subtle cases, which cd involve discussing symptoms & blood work.
