Insulin resistance: You may be referring to the concept of Insulin resistance, in which the body does not respond well to insulin, whether made by the pancreas or injected as medication. Insulin resistance develops in a person with susceptible genetic risk who gains fat weight and is physically inactive. The extra fat cells produce excess hormones that block insulin's effects. This is precursor to type 2 diabetes.
