Chest Tube: Literally, thoracostomy means "hole in the chest". The term is usually used to describe the procedure where a tube is inserted into the chest cavity to re-expand a collapsed lung (pneumothorax). This can be done as a bedside procedure under local anesthesia, but having some sedation helps a lot.
