Asthma and steroids: Doctors use steroids for asthma to keep the inflamation of your airways under control. It should be the first line of ongoing asthma treatment. Usu ally streroids do not help in acute situation.

Reduced inflammation: Oral corticosteroids reduce airway inflammation which leads to improvements in symptoms and lung function. Hydrocortisone is typically not used for this due its short half life. Prednisone or Prednisolone are more commonly prescribed.
