Gastrointestinal: Stromal tumors are tumors that come from neuroendocrine cells. How rapidly they divide determines the need for further treatment after surgery. We do not know what causes gist tumors.

It is a cancer, but : It is a treatable form of rare cancer...Gist is a type of sarcoma for which we now have good drugs, medicines which can keep it under check. Go see a medical oncologist or a sarcoma specialist for further advice.
