Not really: Renal cell carcinoma (rcc) prognosis depends on the stage, histology cell type and nuclear grade. Tnm staging is very helpful. Localized rcc stage 1 or t1 disease have a very good prognosis. Once the cancer it outside of the kidney margins and lymph nodes are involved the prognosis is not as good. Sarcomatoid , clear cell & papillary type 2 cell types have worst prognosis than the other subtypes.

Varies: There are several types of renal cell carcinoma that have variation in prognoses. Today, many tumors are detected at an early stage (when small and not spread beyond the kidney), in which case patients can do very well after removal of the tumor. However, the behavior of some of these cancers can be unpredictable so it is important to be followed carefully.
