Interesting: The burning you feel may actually be a pinched nerve in your low back when laying down at night.I would see your family physician regarding this.

Arthritis/Baker cyst: Multiple causes of posterior (back of) knee pain exist but the most likely causes in a 60+ year old are degenerative diseases: osteoarthritis, baker cyst, and/or 'degenerating cartilage and ligaments' . An xray or MRI may distinguish the causes. Also other possible diagnoses are gout and rheumatioid arthritis (which can be confirmed on simple labs). Hope you are better soon!
