A member asked:

Are there carrier testing available for thyroid diseases? curious as to whether i'll get thyroid disease sometime.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No crystal balls: Labs tests can show whether or not someone makes antibodies that target the thyroid proteins. If antibodies are present, a person has an increased risk of developing thyroid disease over the next several years, but many people with antibodies have normal thyroid levels all their lives. And not having antibodies doesn't mean that they won't have antibodies (and thyroid disease) in the future.
