Low calcium (hypocalcemia) due to hypoparathyroidism is not as common as high calcium (hypercalcemia) due to hyperparathyroidism. The diagnosis is easy with one simple blood test and treatment is also simple with calcium and vitamin D. However, if the PARATHYROID hormone is normal her doctor has to check for a condition called hypocalcemic hypercalciuria for which the treatment will be different.
