A member asked:

How is inhibin a used in testing?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

For Down syndrome: Inhibin a is one of 4 protein levels that are tested for in the "quad screen", a blood test performed in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy to calculate the risk that a woman is carrying a baby with down syndrome. The levels of inhibin a have been found to be about twice as high in women carrying babies affected with Down syndrome as in women with normal babies.
