Reality testing: Reality testing is your ability to distinguish what's happening in your own mind, from what's occurring in the outside world. It's a very important ego function, and can be very impaired in delusional psychotic illness. To a lesser degree it can also be problematic in non-psychotic people -- such as when your own discomfort makes you think others are critical of, or are disliking you.
