AC joint surgery: In ac joint surgery the clavicle is secured to the coracoid process of the scapula to decrease the separation of the ac joint. A graft is frequently used to reconstruct the torn coracoclavicular ligaments.

AC joint surgery: The clavicle acts like a strut, at the far lateral end it supports the scapula, and the weight of the entire arm. When the supporting ligaments are torn badly enough to require surgery, a soft tissue graft is passed around or through the coracoid, and around or through the end of the clavicle, where it is secured. Additional fixation needed to off-load graft until it heals.
