Yes: Thyroid ultrasound with thyroiditis witll show what is called a heterogeneous texture as opposed to the normal homogeneous texture. Only rarely will other conditions be the cause of this pattern.

Yes it can: The thyroid ultrasound appearance is characteristic but not diagnostic. The pattern is diffusely heterogeneous, often somewhat hyperechoic with increased vascular flow. Lab testing is needed however plus or minus thyroid scan to confirm diagnosis.
