Depends: Doctors in the early 1960s began recognizing that wom en with glucose levels in the upper ranges were more prone to problems and later to diabetes. It was not until a congress in about 1990 that glucose testing became standard and gestational diabetes really understood and nationally recognized and treated. I know my last child was born in 1980 and i was never tested!
