It depends: If you are female with a hormone problem such as pcos, then medical treatment may help. Metformin and spironolactone can be helpful. Other wise, laser hair removal, intense pulsed light, shaving and waxing all work.

BCP, Vaniqua: option: In addition to the option of spirolactone (which can be used for female hirsuitism regardless of the etiology - as long as pregnancy is not planned) and metformin (used primarily as an additive treatment for pcos); birth control pills can help (and should be the foundation of therapy for pcos to decrease risk of endometrial cancer), and vaniqua is a topical agent for local facial hair only.
