How can a nerve block help treat endometriosis?

It's complicated.: Endo can cause spasm in the pelvic floor muscles, and it can also live on some of the pelvic nerves. Generally, once the endo is excised the muscles and nerves go back to normal. Rarely, there is permanent injury and irritation of either the nerves or muscles, and this is where nerve blocks are most effective. Pudendal neuralgia is an overlooked cause of pelvic pain that will respond to blocks.

Just the pain: A nerve block decreases the pain reception from the area served by the specific nerve. However, the treatment of endometriosis depends on tissue confirmation and is best treated by removal plus further hormonal manipulation.
