A member asked:

Do damaged rods and cones in the retina heal if damaged?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: If only the rod or cone discs are damaged and the rpe and cell body of the rod and cone are intact then the cells can regrow the discs and the function should improve. If those tissues or cellular connections to the optic nerve are damaged, then the function may not return.
