A member asked:

Why are there more cones at the back of they eye and more rods along the edges?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rods and cones: Cones detect color and can discriminate fine definition best, where as rods can discriminate light from dark best. Your straight ahead vision and fine definition falls on the back of the eye, where as the peripheral which is best served with rods is more concentrated along the edges or periphery.
