Can be the same: An embolism is a blood clot that travels and can cause a blockage of the artery. A stroke can be caused by different things, such as an embolism or artery blockage. A stroke can also be caused by hardening of the arteries with blockage, or even an artery aneurysm that bursts with bleeding.
