A member asked:

How long after eating gluten does a rash occur when you have dermatitis herpetiformis of the skin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Skin & celiac sprue: Dermatitis herpetiformis is a very special skin eruption uniquely linked to celiac sprue (gluten-sensitive enteropathy). Not every sprue patient develops dermatitis herpetiformis, the timetable for manifestation of which is variable. Gluten intolerant patients do not have this skin problem. If you indeed have celiac sprue it is imperative that your diet is strictly gluten free always.
