Moderation: Selective tv watching can be very enlightening--there are some outstanding shows. But limiting the time and being selective is critical. Same is true for books, too. But on balance, great books are going to be more stimulating than great tv, lousy tv worse than lousy books (maybe). Imagination is more active while reading, and so more stimulated. Likewise vocab. If one had to choose: books.
