Can a person have shingles on there back with out the rash? also do shingles burn?

Yes: The rash of shingles usually follows the pain in the same area within 1-2 days, but it can be several days. It is a nerve pain, which often is a burning sensation. Extremely variable severity of pain, but always on one side of body along the course of a nerve.
