Yes and no: Oral antihistamines can lessen the severity of the itching that goes along with eczema. Moisturizers are the primary treatment, as well as avoidance of things that aggravate the skin. Topical steroids help with the more severe flares, while oral steroids are sometimes used. Talk to your doctor. All of these help lessen the severity of the itching, but don't make eczema go away for good.

Yes you scratch less: Antihistamines are one of the important medications that we use for eczema or atopic dermatitis. The condition starts with itching, which leads to scratching, which causes a rash to develop, and then there is more itching and a vicious cycle ensues. Antihistamines are used to decrease the itching. Sedating antihistamines can be used at night to help decrease scratching while asleep.
