What are the differences between psychiatry and neuro-psychiatry?

Psychiatry : Neuropsychiatry deals with neurological conditions as well as psychiatric disorders needing objective results using batteries scales to define the limitations of an individual as well as the treatment needs and disability assesment for job requirements.

Brain-->Mind: Neuropsychiatry attends to overt changes in the brain associated with changes in thinking, feeling and behavior. Loss of cortical tissue produces the psychiatruc symptoms of alzheimers' (loss of cognition, primarily).

Differences Yes: Neuropsychiatry is a branch of medicine that deals with mental disorders attributable to diseases of the nervous system. It preceded the current disciplines of psychiatry and neurology, which had common training.[1] However, psychiatry and neurology subsequently split apart and are typically practiced separately. Nevertheless, neuropsychiatry has become a growing subspecialty of psychiatry and it is also closely related to the field of behavioral neurology, which is a subspecialty of neurology that addresses clinical problems of cognition and/or behavior caused by brain injury or brain disease of different etiologies.

Great question : All psychiatrists have to know about neurology and visa versa all neurologists have to know about psychiatry. The field of neuropsychiatry requires some additional experience or training and involves a more in-depth understanding of the psychiatric implications of neurological diseases. These specialists may work as part of a neuro team and address behavioral issues in strokes, dementia, etc.

Physiology of brain: The latter is a diverse field of knowledge that incorporates our knowledge of how the brain functions, in parts/compartments/networks/configurations that are known to correlate with certain behavioral, emotional, and sensory experiences. The expanding field of functional imaging allows us to understand and subsequently develop better interventions for those with mood and behavioral disturbances.
