What is a psychiatric services dog?

Www.psychdog.org: According to this website, a psychiatric services dog is individually trained to do "work" or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a mental disability. For example, they might prevent or interrupt impulsive or destructive behaviors. The crime deterrent effects of a dog's presence and the provision of emotional support, well-being, comfort, or companionship do not constitute "work.".

A service dog for: Psychiatric conditions is trained specifically to assist an individual with behaviors related to their disability. For instance, a service dog may help remind an individual with ptsd to take their medicines. However, a dog whose role is limited to comforting someone with ptsd would fall under the role of emotional support animal.
