A member asked:

How did people deal with impaired vision before glasses?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Squinting: They squinted a lot! the purpose of the front of the eye (the cornea and the lens) is to bend or refract light rays so they will be properly focused on the retina. By squinting the eyelids block out most of the peripheral light rays that would have to be focused the most and only let in the central light rays that will hit the retina properly without focusing.
