A 43-year-old member asked:
how to cure farsightedness by doing eye excercises?

Dr. Clement Chenganswered

Not possible: Basing my answer on medical studies and research, it is not possible to cure farsightedness with eye exercises. The problem is that the optical system of the eye is focusing the image behind the retina. Glasses or contacts correct this by refocusing the light. Eye exercises work on the eye muscles around the eye but not on the focusing of light on the retina.

A 41-year-old member asked:
Can you be myopic in one eye and hyperopic in the other?
1 doctor answer • 3 doctors weighed in

Dr. Andrew Shatzanswered
Ophthalmology 26 years experience
Yes: While unlikely, it is possible to have some degree of nearsightedness (myopia) in one eye while having some farsightedness (hyperopia) in the other. The myopic eye could have a cataract, causing nearsightedness, or the farsighted eye may be smaller from birth, causing the hyperopia. There are other possible causes, but there is certainly a possibility.

Can nearsighted people get nearsighted in one eye and farsighted in other when they get older?

Dr. Matheson Harrisanswered
Ophthalmology 16 years experience
Yes: Some people have unstable refractive errors and can experience changing prescriptions throughout their lives. Many things influence your refraction including the length of your eye, the shape of the cornea and lens, degeneration of the cornea and or lens, and changes in body chemistry especially blood sugar. The refraction can change in many ways throughout life.

No: Farsightedness can be inconvenient and uncomfortable for computer users, but there is not any evidence that farsightedness and computer use produce eye damage.

A 31-year-old member asked:
What is it called when one of your eyes is near sighted but the other eye is far sighted?

Dr. Joseph Barakehanswered
Ophthalmology 24 years experience
Anisometropia: Any big difference in eyeglass power (>2.50) is called anisometropia, and makes it difficult to wear glasses successfully. Often the patient wears contacts. If the difference in near and farsightedness (example r eye -0.50 and l eye +0.50, difference 1.00) is small, then the fact that one is slightly near and the other is slightly far shouldn't bother the patient too much.

However, one eye could be farsighted (hyperopic), while the other is nearsighted (myopic).
