Diabetic retinopathy: Diabetic retinopathy is the number one reason people age 25-65 loose vision in the usa. Glaucoma is the number one reason in african americans in the us. Age related macular degeneration is the number one reason people over age 65 go blind in the U.S. In the world, the number one reason for blindness is cataracts, not a problem in the u.S since it is the most frequently performed surgery.
