Usually not: Glaucoma is generally a very treatable condition. Loss of vision occurs when it is undetected, the treatment is not applied diligently (patient forgets drops or appointments) and only in rare cases does the condition seem to gallop on despite the best of treatment. It is best treated by an ophthalmologist rather than an optometrist.

Potentially blinding: Glaucoma is a well-known eye condition that has the potential to cause blindness. However, with early diagnosis and intervention the risk of going blind can be greatly minimized. One's individual risk for blindness is determined by the stage at which they are diagnosed. The best chance to minimize blindness is to follow Dr. instructions for treatment and keep follow-up appt to monitor change.
