Pregnancy detection: The most sensitive at-home pregnancy tests should be able to detect pregnancy before the first day of your missed period. One can tell a week before your next cycle. That would mean at earliest it should be about 2-3 weeks after suspected fertilization date.

Too soon to rule out: If the result is positive, it is valid, if it is negative, it would not rule out pregnancy. If you miss your period by 4-5 days, do a home pregnancy test. If the result is negative repeat the test 4-5 days later unless you get a period by then. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time.
