With reverence: During my career, I have seen lack of respect only once; that pathologist no longer works. The body and head are entered similarly to other surgeries but with larger incisions (invisible at funeral). Each organ is examined, sampled for possible special studies, perhaps toxicology or other samples are taken, and the organs replaced. I've never known a family sorry they asked for an autopsy.
