Relatively lower.: Hematopoetic stem cell transplant (hsct) is done a atherapy for blood diseases like cll. This is not always done because there are risks and complications. The mortality is relatively high in the recipient - 10% or higher. Thus these are used in life threatening conditions. Complications include veno-occlusive disease, mucositis, infections (sepsis), graft-versus-host disease, and oral cancer.

Select patients: Allogeneic (donor) stem cell transplants can be conducted using less intensive (non-ablative) regimens with excellent results for patients with CLL. It is not the first line of therapy, since patients can have remissions of several years with simpler therapies. Fatal complications still may occur in 25% of patients, but unlike other treatments, the remainder have a good chance of being cured.
