Not common: Most women who get epidurals do fine except some mild itching. Sometimes women will get a spinal headache.Where it hurts when you sit up but are fine lying down. This is often treated with caffeine or blood patch. Rarely you can get meningitis or more serious side effects.

Epidurals usually ok: There are many effects of an epidural, depending on how much and how fast medicine is injected and how your body reacts to it. Every pregnant woman is carefully watched by their nurse and anesthetist to optimize the good effects and minimize the bad effects. These effects include decreased labor pain, decreased blood pressure, itching, headache, bleeding, nerve problems, continued pain and more.
