A member asked:

Do doctors still prescribe phenobarbital for pregnant epileptics?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usually Not: While we generally avoid medications in pregancy, uncontrolled seizures are a greater threat to a pregnancy and to the mother than the medications are. Most anti-seizure meds can be used in pregnancy, understanding that each has its own potential side effects and teratogenicity. Phenobarb is one med, but more modern anti-epileptics are also used when appropriate.
