A member asked:

My doctor is afraid that if i stop taking my meds to get pregnant that i will have a relapse of my epilepsy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Complex issue: Some seizure medications are more of a risk for the fetus than others. Low effective dose of appropriate medication is necessary to protect you during pregnancy. Good folate (folic acid) doses are necessary daily throughout the pregnancy. Close monitoring of fetal well being including ultrasounds to look for anamolies would be appropriate. Careful preparation should provide good outcome for both of you.
