A member asked:

What is the difference between pt and ptt partial thromboplastin time?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Two pathways: The process of coagulation follows two pathways, and pt measures the constituents of the extrinsic pathway and PTT measure the constituents of intrinsic pathway. There is a common final pathway for both sides. The tests help in diagnosing the type of coagulation abnormality, e.g., pt is prolonged on treatment with coumadin/warfarin and PTT is prolonged with heparin.
