Excellent question!: Screening means checking for something when you don't have any symptoms (e.g., screening mammograms). Diagnostic procedures are done in order to figure out what is causing some problem (e.g., mammograms to see what is causing a breast lump). A list of needed screenings by age can be found in an iphone app called my health checklist 2012.
