A member asked:

My dr gave me a choice between an annual screening test and a one time procedure. what is the difference in effectiveness between a stool screening test and a colonoscopy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Screening: A screening stool test usually is done to detect hidden blood in the stool or to detect abnormal DNA as well as hidden blood, while a colonoscopy is an invasive test which allows visualization of the entire colon.& sees cancer or polyps which could lead to cancer. It is done around age 50 and if negative isn't repeated for 10 years. The stool tests are done yearly but can miss polyps or cancer
