Kind of: It can be a quick screening test - but it only shows you your total cholesterol and not the components (hdl, tg, ldl, etc.).

Close enough: However for a proper evaluation you need to have your blood tested in fasting state for more than cholesterol. The usual panel includes total cholesterol, hdl, calculated LDL and triglycerides.
