Probably not: Your baby doesn't realize that he is doing this, but he needs to learn it is not good. He might be over hungry at that time. You didn't mention how old he was. Talk to a lactation consultant or an experienced mother in la leche league. They have experience in dealing with this and can help guide you.

Teach him...: ...Not to bite the breast that feeds him! in all seriousness, most babies don't realize that their teeth can hurt mom. Calmly taking baby off the breast after biting can break this habit. See http://kellymom.Com/ages/older-infant/biting/ for some additional ideas.
