It depends.: If mild, no treatment may be needed. If moderate, usually treated with medication, and of the two available meds, ptu (propylthiouracil) is generally preferred over methimazole. If severe, treatment might be a combination of meds, and surgery if it can be done in the 2nd trimester. The baby requires monitoring both before delivery and for 6m after delivery.
