Meds and age: As one gets older, there is a degeneration of the electricity around the heart, this can slow down heart rates, beta blockers like Lopressor or toprol (metoprolol) or Coreg can slow down the heart rate, so can calcium channel blockers. Many heart medications can also slow down the heart rate such as antirhythmics.
