Is having a slow heart rate when first waking up in the morning a cause for concern?

Generally not: If you feel well, a slow resting heart rate is usually a sign of a healthy, or "conditioned" heart. Athletes commonly have resting heart rates below 60 beats per minute (bradycardia). However, if the rhythm is not normal (sinus), or you don't feel well, bradycardia may be a sign of heart disease. If you don't feel well, check with your doctor, or er and have an electrocardiogram done. Dr. Mike.
