Possible lab error: The crit is usually 3 times the hemoglobin. The HGB is measured, the hematocrit is calculated. If the red cells are not of usual size, or if something in the blood interferes with the measurement of red cell size and number, the ratio will be off. The hematocrit result will be suspect. The hemoglobin, since it is directly measured, will be correct.
