A member asked:

Is fluoride necessary to have good teeth? why do some dentists not recommend the supplements?

Fluoride supplements: Fluoride supplementation has been shown to prevent development of dental caries especially in areas where the drinking water has low Fluoride content. Taking greater than the prescribed amount per age occasionally results in staining of teeth. This maybe the reason why dentists do not recommend Fluoride supplements as toothpaste now incorporate Fluoride as well.

No: Fluoride is a great discovery that has helped preventative dentistry slow and even sometimes stop the rampant spread of dental decay. Many studies show the beneficial effects of Fluoride on teeth and how it can help remineralize teeth when the decay process has started. However, it is not absolutely necessary for good teeth. Genetics plays a huge role in how effective the body defends against bugs.
