My son is 2 has a fever and runny nose complaining of left side of mouth hurting. could it be more than just teething?

Pain: By age 2 your child should have already seen a Dentist or Pediatric Dental Specialist (Pedodontist) at least 2 or 3 times. That practitioner will have a baseline for comparison. If not, please make an immediate appointment. It may be teething pain, but there are many other possibilities. An examination and possibly imaging is required
